Activities of Council
Functions of Upazila Parishad

1. To make five-year and various term development plans.
2. To implement the programs of various government departments handed over to the council and to supervise and coordinate the activities of those departments.
3. Construction, repair and maintenance of inter-union connecting roads.
4. Adoption and implementation of small scale irrigation projects by the Upazila Parishad as per the directions of the government to ensure optimal use of surface water resources.
5. Ensuring public health, nutrition, and family planning services.
6. Improving sanitation and drainage system and taking measures for supply of potable drinking water.
7. (A) Provide motivation and support for the expansion of education at the upazila level.
   (B) Supervise the activities of the concerned institutions and provide assistance to them in order to improve the quality of secondary education and madrasa education activities.
8. Undertake activities for the establishment and development of cottage and small scale industries.
9. To provide assistance and co-ordinate the work of co-operative societies and non-governmental voluntary organizations.
10. To provide and implement support for women, children, social welfare and youth, sports and cultural activities.
11. Adoption and implementation of activities for the development of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forest resources.
12. Discuss the activities of the police department including improving the law and order situation in the upazila and sending regular reports to the higher authorities.
13. Assist the government in initiating, implementing and implementing government programs on its own initiative for self-employment and poverty alleviation.
14. Coordinating and inspecting the development activities of the Union Parishad and providing necessary assistance.
15. Taking other preventive measures including creating public opinion against the organization of crimes like violence against women and children.
16. To take other preventive measures against terrorism, theft, robbery, smuggling, use of drugs, drugs etc.
17. Undertake other activities including social forestry for the purpose of environmental protection and development.
18. Other functions assigned by the Government from time to time.
